The efficacy of finasteride and minoxidil in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is unknown. To determine the efficacy of finasteride and minoxidil in the treatment of BPH in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) using different doses of finasteride and minoxidil for the treatment of the condition. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either finasteride or minoxidil for 6 months or to receive either finasteride or minoxidil at the same dose for 3 months. The incidence of side effects was determined by the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS). The mean age of the patients was 68.7 years. The mean age was similar for finasteride and minoxidil group. The mean age of the patients was 55.5 years for finasteride group and 55.8 years for minoxidil group. The mean MADRS scores were significantly higher in the finasteride group than in the minoxidil group. However, the proportion of patients with a mean reduction in MADRS score was not significantly different between the groups. The mean reduction in MADRS score was also not different between the groups. Although the effect of finasteride and minoxidil on the treatment of BPH was not different, the side effects reported in the clinical trials of these drugs were mild and transient. This study suggests that finasteride and minoxidil in the treatment of BPH may be effective and have an acceptable safety profile.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a prevalent male sexual health issue. It is often the first symptom of BPH. The treatment of BPH is usually a combination of surgery and anti-inflammatory drugs (AEDs) such as finasteride and minoxidil, but also drugs used in the treatment of BPH. A variety of AEDs have been used to treat BPH in various studies, including finasteride (Propecia®, Proscar®, Minoxidil®, and others), minoxidil (Rogaine®, Rogaine XL®), and finasteride (Proscar®). These medications can be used in combination with AEDs to improve BPH symptoms.
Finasteride has been used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) for decades. Finasteride is a PDE5 inhibitor, but in some studies, it has also been used to treat BPH. The most well-known AEDs used in BPH are the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (), 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptor agonists (5-HTRA) receptor antagonists, and the 5-HT receptor antagonists (5-HTRA2, 5-HTRA3, and 5-HTRA6) ().
Finasteride has been found to be effective in treating BPH, but its side effects are not well-studied.
